Who is CNY Freedom Makers?
As CNY Freedom Makers we are seeking to increase awareness of slavery, specifically sex trafficking, and impact a specific community in Manila, Philippines. In partnership with International Justice Mission (IJM) we will financially support a comprehensive justice initiative through the IJM Manila Field Office. By joining this movement in Central New York you will literally help RESCUE individual women and girls, REPLICATE the successes seen in nearby communities, and RESTORE broken justice systems in Manila in order to REVERSE the effects of injustice in this community.
Today’s facts are staggering. Today slavery exists in numbers greater than at any time in history. Globally more than 27 million people, half under the age of 18, are forced into the $32 billion dollar human trafficking industry. 80% of these victims are women and 70% are sold for sex.
But we have a different history. Syracuse has a storied history of interest, passion and activism towards slavery. The Jerry Rescue of 1851 in Syracuse was one of the great triumphs of the anti slavery movement and is commemorated in downtown’s Clinton Square. Syracuse was known as the “great central depot” along the Freedom Trail, a central stop along the underground railroad that was a pathway to freedom for those held captive.
Building on our history, legacy and identity as a community that has engaged in the anti-slavery movement in the past we are uniting to continue this movement of modern day abolitionists, working to address the current human trafficking industry and become CNY Freedom Makers.
CNY Freedom Makers is a movement that is growing, active and needs your participation to succeed. You are invited to join us, so that we can continue to provide a pathway to freedom and justice for those held captive in our day.
